Kutcher stars as Internet billionaire Walden Schmidt looking to start over in love and life. Walden buys the Malibu beach house where tightly wound, divorcé Alan Harper and his underachieving teenage son, Jake, have been living rent-free for almost a decade. The carefree Walden keeps on his live-in houseguests for companionship -- as well as domineering housekeeper Berta. Despite Alan's unsuccessful history with women, he finds himself mentoring the aloof Walden in the ways of love. While Walden, Alan and Jake adjust to their new living arrangement, they strangely form a family bond that promises to make each of them a better man.
